I was born and raised in Guatemala City until the age of 14, when my mom, two brothers and I moved to the United States. We fell in love with and moved to Santa Barbara about six months after we arrived in the US and we have called it home ever since. I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University and a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development from Cal State LA. I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in December of 2025 and I am now trying to establish my private practice in Santa Barbara in hopes of giving back to the community that has given me so much.
I come from a very typical, large, tight-knit, Latinx family. We love dancing and eating and will take any excuse to get together. Luckily for me, I also have an incredible chosen family that has shown me that love extends so far beyond blood. I have found that connecting with my family is what fills my cup the most--I am the most me when I am with them. Outside of spending time with my village and working my dream job, traveling and attending concerts are the two things that bring me the most joy. I love seeing the world and hearing live music at any given opportunity--especially when I get to share that with my people.
I am a believer in good and beautiful things, in the power of humanity and in the love we put out into the world. I believe nature and human connection have the power to heal. Most of all, I believe in the power that we hold as people when we come together.
My approach to therapy is greatly influenced by all the things mentioned above. I bring my culture, my humanity and my love for music into the therapy room. And my goal is always for my clients to be able to do the same. I hope that as my client, you feel safe and comfortable bringing all aspects of your life into our work together. I will use my knowledge to help you, and my humanity to connect with you.

Conoce a Laurie
Nací y me crié en la Ciudad de Guatemala hasta los 14 años, cuando mi mamá, mis dos hermanos y yo nos mudamos a los Estados Unidos. Nos mudamos a Santa Barbara seis meses después de haber llegado a EEUU y ha sido nuestro hogar desde entonces. Tengo una Maestría en Psicología Clínica de Azusa Pacific University y una Licenciatura en Desarrollo Infantil de Cal State LA. Obtuve mi licencia en Terapia Matrimonial y Familiar en Diciembre del 2025 y ahora estoy tratando de establecer mi consulta privada en Santa Barbara con el deseo de servir a la comunidad que ha hecho tanto por mí.
Vengo de una familia típica Latina. Somos muchos y nos encanta comer, bailar y encontrar cualquier excusa para pasar tiempo juntos. Afortunadamente, también tengo una familia elegida que me ha mostrado que el amor va más allá de la sangre. He aprendido que lo que más me llena es estar con mi familia--me siento más yo cuándo estoy con ellos. Aparte de pasar tiempo con mis seres queridos y tener el trabajo de mis sueños, las cosas que más me traen alegría son los conciertos y poder viajar. Amo ver el mundo y escuchar música en vivo--especialmente si lo puedo hacer con mis personas favoritas.
Creo en las cosas buenas y bellas en esta vida, en el poder de nuestra humanidad y en el amor que compartimos con el mundo. Creo que la naturaleza y la conexión humana tienen el poder de sanar. Y más que todo, creo en el poder que tenemos como seres humanos cuando decidimos unirnos.
Todas estas cosas forman parte de mi manera de llevar la terapia. Me gusta traer mi cultura, mi humanidad y mi amor por la musica al espacio que compartimos. My meta es que mis pacientes puedan hacer lo mismo. Que tú también te sientas libre trayendo cada aspecto de su vida al trabajo que hacemos juntos. Yo usaré mi conocimiento para ayudarte, y mi humanidad para conectar contigo.
